Between
The Horns

OK, the
season's over and the Herd pulled through yet again. It's time to
begin preparing for next season. After the loss at Toledo a number
of fans, press, and the like began busting on the Herd for a poor
run defense. And they were probably right in most cases. The Herd
has got to get some big defensive linemen to stop the run and let
our speed boys take care of the secondary for a while. (insert Forest
Gump voice here) That's all I have to say about that.
Now on offense. There's
a question mark at running back. Rodgers will be back from a knee
injury. But Wallace now has the experience? Can you say 2 back set?
Look, Kellet and Buggs are gone and we need some size to open the
holes. Our OL boys can knock people off the ball well enough, but
we all know that the first 3 yards are great, but having that extra
lead block for 8 more is what makes a run offense. All season we
tried to establish the run and did a good job of it...which opened
up a HUGE passing game which goes without speaking.
Final analysis. The
GMAC bowl will do one of two things. Give the Herd a thumbs up for
an incredible offensive display. Or give the Herd a thumbs down
for a poor run defense against ECU. Either way, I think the offensive
show should move the Herd up in the rankings especially since C-USA
only won one of four possible bowl games. Which brings up another
question...do we really want to go to Conference USA?
