Between
The Horns

Welcome back...to the
real world. After last weeks heartbreaker I believe the reality
is starting to set in for a few people. Our beloved Herd lost a
game. And that's it. Just a game. Granted, it was the championship
game but it was a game. And it was to a team that played better
than us at least one night out of the season as much as I even hate
to admit it.
That being said, our
beloved Herd is also 10-2 and going to a bowl game this month on
national television. Now, for those of you who don't remember -
think back to a cold night at Fairfield Stadium about 1978. Do you
recall talking about being a ranked football team one day? Do you
remember wishing you could watch the Herd play on ABC on Saturday?
Do you?
All winners lose a few
along the way. How can a team improve year after year when it is
not tested. You just don't play big teams and win all the time.
Look at Florida State right now. Psst...they're playing in bowl
by the way, don't tell anybody. That's because they have a reputation
for winning and they have a large fan base that will draw national
attention. Hmmm, another team that wins a lot comes to mind...M-A-R-S-H-A-L-L.
Now I'm not saying that
Marshall is in the same league as Florida State (although they could
be this year), but a winning tradition is often just as important
as winning one single big game.
So for those of you who
are down on these kids for making a few mistakes last weekend, think
again before you give them down the road. They pulled it out time
and again right in front of your eyes...some of them for 4 consecutive
years. Cut them a break. Toledo had a very good team, the likes
of which they may not see for a long time...until they come to Huntington
or arrive on our schedule again.
The very fact that Marshall
is still ranked after last weeks loss says volumes about the MU
program. We're here and we're here to stay. Go to Mobile if you
can, if not show your support locally. GO HERD!
