Opinion:
Sept 3, 2001 - Learnin'. "What
did The Herd learn from the trip to the swamp? MU has a lot of work
to do if they want to win any games in the 2001 campaign.
We
learned that the offensive line is still full of holes. Leftwich
got sacked 5 times, at that rate he'll get dumped in the backfield
almost twice as many times as the 2000 season.
We learned that Chanston Rogers has no peripheral vision.
There were holes the size of Montana on many rushing plays but Rogers
ended up running into his own linemen more often than the hole.
We learned that Curtis Jones doesn't know if he's coming
or going. Jones lost almost as many yards as he gained by reversing
his direction to get a couple extra yards.
We learned that the receiving corps is loaded with speed but there
may only be one pair of decent hands in the whole bunch. MU could
have had as many as three additional touchdowns if the receivers
could have caught the ball.
We learned that the defense can't tackle, they hit a whole
bunch but UF got yards after the hit on almost every play. Thankfully
Max Yates, Yancey Satterwhite and Ralph Street had strong performances
that kept the defense alive.
We learned that the special teams looked like crap. Head
had decent punts but outkicked his coverage on every kick that didn't
go out of bounds. The coverage teams couldn't seem to tackle anything
and couldn't stay in their assigned lanes. The return teams didn't
look any better, with a total of 0 return yards.
We learned that the MU fans are fools if they already have
reservations for a holiday bowl. If a much improved Herd team doesn't
show up very soon then MU will probably finish the season around
3-8 and shouldn't even be on the field with the better MAC schools.
All in all, we learned that Marshall has a long way to go if the
tradition of championships and bowl games is to continue.
(NOTE: Statistics
are from ESPN's Box Score)."

"I have learned
that you are obviously a bandwagon fan that has probablly never played
a day of ball in your life.
The biggest improvements are made between games one and two. The HERD
will challenge for the MAC Title. If you are a true fan, don't put your
team down - support them! We played the top ranked team in the nation
that will be playing for a National Championship! Call me a fool if you
want (for making bowl reservations) but the fool is the one who downs
his team for a loss and then jumps on the wagon for the championship or
bowl game. (Which if you truly are a HERD Fan you will do.) Only conference
losses matter and the last time I checked we were still in the MAC and
Florida plays in the SEC.
With all considered I am satisfied with the O Lines performancein comparison
to last year. Rodgers played a great game and made some awesome runs.
One more point buddy... when you have a return man like Shepard returning
the ball you dont kick it to him and when you do, it is hard to catch
sommeone that fast.
GO HERD EVERYBODY!"

" What planet are
you from? Did you watch the same game I did?
I saw that Byron Leftwich picked apart a seven-man defensive backfield
without getting picked off once.
I saw that Byron Leftwich got sacked because of coverage downfield, and
not because of the offensive line play.
I saw Chanston Rogers run like his knee was back to 1999 form, and I watched
him average 5.3 yards per carry against the #1 team in the country!
I saw a UF team so fast and deep it made your head spin.
I saw the Herd going against the best in the country, an opportunity I
only dreamed about five years ago.
Nothing worse than a downer jack*** who wrote the letter I am responding
to. Crawl back in the slime you came from."

"Timeout already!
What you didn't see is the post of POSITIVE things learned from the UF
game. Also, I'd be willing to bet the MU coaching staff pointed out the
same things to the players after they reviewed the game films. Now I'll
shut up so Rumor Boy and the rest of you can turn this site into an untempered
'woof' zone!"

"I learned that
you don't seem to follow Marshall football very well or you'd realize
the teams in the MAC can not compare to Florida's talent and speed. Lets
see how you respond at the end of the year when the Herd has another 10
win (or more) season."
