Aug 20, 2001 - OU Prez Speaks - No Deadline. "Speculation
that the Mid-American Conference has issued an ultimatum to Marshall
that the school must decide by August 24 or 28 whether it wants
to stay in the MAC is not true." Glidden also stated
in the last paragraph, "I
think the MAC is right for us," he said. "I can't say whether conferences
like the MAC will always be 1-A - time will tell - but I do know
that with a 25,000-seat football stadium we cannot afford to compete
in a conference that has 60,000- to 80-000-seat stadiums and pay
their head football coaches $500K-$1 million a year. Our athletic
budget is very small, even for the MAC, let alone thinking about
a "bigger" conference." That's exactly why we need to move
on, don't you agree Herd Fans? You

I agree somewhat. We
should move on when the right opportunity presents itself. C-USA would
be a good fit for us but only if we go in as an all sports member. We
would benefit them as a football member and they would be a benefit to
our basketball program. Who's to say what will happen in the coming shake-up?
Maybe if we sit tight we'll be able to join a entirely new conference
made up of some of the schools from C-usa,the Big East and the Sec. Only
time will tell and that in the next 3-5 yrs. What do you think?
