Opinion:
Aug 20, 2001 - No MAC."God
forbid we get stuck in the MAC. If so The Commish needs to seriously
think about restructuring the conference. Say for instance get rid
of Buffalo, Northern Illinois,(The Band Fighters) can't wait to
see thier new logo. Ha ha. Kent state and Central Michigan. I know
the last two would meet with severe resistance due to tradition,
but something will have to be done. If not, the better teams will
be absorbed by better conferences and the MAC will be no more. In
getting rid of these four we could call upon UCF, Navy, Troy State
and either USF or Flordia Atlantic. You may laugh at the mention
of Flordia Atlantic but Do you remember the name Howard Schnellenberger.
Yes the Previous coach of the University of Miami is the Athletic
Director at FA. He has a lot of backing.
Maybe this is just crazy thought, but if things don't change the
MAC is destined to RIP.
PS Even ask Temple to come. They have a big Backer in Bill Cosby.

This is one of the best
thoughts that I've read about Marshall's future conference affiliation.
I think that the MAC is a good fit for the Herd; however, the MAC needs
to get rid of schools that cannot meet certain standards in terms of both
facilities and support (i.e., attendance). Schools like Kent State and
Akron that play in front of crowds of 3,000 destroy the league's image.
I truly feel that the MAC is a better league than C-USA, but it needs
to develop a three-to-five year plan to upgrade its standards. Schools
should be advised to get "up to snuff "or move to I-AA. Then
wait until a better offer comes along--but it WILL NOT happen overnight!
