but we absolutely must get out of the low level MAC conference.
We simply cannot attract a consistent sellout at home games playing

Make Some Noise!. "I picked the newspaper up on Saturday
morning and read that the crowd at the game was "raucous".
I'm not sure where the reproter was sitting, but it sure as hell
wasn't "raucous" where I was sitting. I was embarrassed
that ESPN2 would show our entire (with only a few exceptions)section
sitting down and not making any noise. I was surrounded by a bunch
of mouse-clickin', cell phone-talkin', SUV-drivin', latte'-sippin'
deadbeats who stared disapprovingly at anyone who dared to stand
and give the HERD the vocal support that even the players were exhorting
the crowd to give them!!
Before anyone gets on here and tells me that they have "earned"
the right to sit like bumps on a log, that they're old, etc, etc.,let
me just say that I was there BEFORE the crash and I have as much
arthritis as anyone who can still type. But I go to games to MAKE
NOISE!!! That's what I'm there for!! If I wanted to sit with my
hands in my lap, I'd go to the frickin' ballet!
And no, I wasn't drunk, and no, I wasn't trying to get any obscene
cheers going. I have six kids, so I don't need "family values"
rammed down my neck. I am just a fan who honestly thinks that when
a team comes into OUR house, they have absolutely no right to any
communication whatsoever save hand signals. Did we learn nothing
from the VT game? Folks, if we want to have an intimidating, first-class
team, we have to have an intimidating, first-class crowd. I may
be preaching to the choir here, and I don't pretend to have all
the answers to the problem of people who won't cheer, but something
has to be said. " Thanks to < Dave > for this opinion.

UCF squad, its gonna be tough next year when we go down there, if
we're still in the MAC. As for the UCF fans, what a bunch of schmucks.
News-flash Knights, you aren't going to come into our house, in
your first MAC game ever and get a win. I think its great you thought
that, but man you guys talked more trash that Western Michigan fans

29th. "Wow. I have not really tried before now, but
I decided to see who and what related to Marshall was around on
the net. Its really nice to see a site that has to do with the Fans
opinions and thoughts.
My uncle does not touch the computer much, and he doesn't go out
searching for things as I do (Uncle Bob to me, coach Bobby to you,
lol). I work with computers, so having been born in the age I guess
it comes naturally.
When I was on the sidelines for the Tech game I could see that it
was us that needed to improve. V Tech is in my Opinion in the top-5
if not top-3 teams of the season. Their running back has not had
a fumble in over 370 carries! that's incredible in my opinion. Our
receivers need to catch better.
ESPN started to doubt Marshall's being ranked in the Top-25. But
we will show them down the road, when it ends its not us being poor,
it was actually that Virginia Tech is a great team this year, and
the polls did not notice it. We're only back to 29th or so in both
polls. We'll get back in there, no discouragement.
After all. Florida lost to Miami worse then we did to Virginia Tech,
and you don't hear the reporters stomping them out of it. It can
be done, we just got to show the ability, and guts to do it. We
need to take full advantage of being able to schedule one more nonconformance
game a year. You can loose to another team, as long as its done
respectfully you will be seen as a great team. We know we are, we
got to show the Florida's, the ABC's and the BIG-10's of college
football we have as much ability, skill and class as they want.
There can only be 1 number one team a year, but it takes the test
of time to make a legacy of a school." Thanks to < Jarod

OK, So What Now? "Wanna complain and wallow around in
self-pity? I admit that I felt pretty low last night. but then I
watched Byron Leftwich after the game. He smiled as he shook hands
with Tech players and talked to the media. That's when I thought,
"you know, if this guy can take the shots he did and stay positive,
who the hell am I, an overweight, middle-aged beer drinker, to do
otherwise?" Our program is not where we want it to be, but
we WILL get there! And we will get there by keeping our heads up
and supporting the Herd. Let's get together, take what we have left,
and make this a great season! We can get off our duffs and take
some people with us to the stadium and set an attendance record
this year!!! Next Friday, I'm taking my Mexican-American wife to
her FIRST footaball game. She is very excited because she has come
to love the Herd almost as much as I do. I hope she gets to meet
a lot of you there. It's her birthday, so please buy her a drink.
LOL . If a bunch of kids can show us what it means to NEVER QUIT,
then who are WE? The answer is and will always be...WE ARE...MARSHALL!!!!

VT & MU "Hey Herd..Besides for this game, we VT
fans always root for the Herd. Our schools are similar, and we both
love our football. Your program is also similar to ours in the fact
that you are trying to take it to the next level, as we finally
have. We struggled for years, and we have finally gotten there.
As far as most VT fans are concerned, there is NOTHING worse than
WVU fans. They are rude, aggressive, and not good fans in general.
VT fans know that Herd fans are educated about their football, and
we respect that. Our schools have alot in common, so don't lose
sight of that. Expect an entertaining game, and drink some frosty
beverages with us while you're in Blacksburg. Be safe, and beat
the 'eers." Thanks to < ExtremeHokie > for this opinion.

Serious Question and a couple of Comments from a Hokie Fan.
"1. There has been no mention of physical, aggressive, and
speed recognition from The Thundering Fans? What is the story on
Marshall's Physical,Agressiveness, and Speed it will bring? Marshall
deserves respect and must bring a Physical, Agressive, and Speedy
bunch to B-burg or will be blown off the field.
The quarterback you have is the best in the nation, but he is only
one person and defense wins.
2. What is B.L. 40 Speed?
Final Note: Marshall did not dodge the game in B-burg as many other
teams have including OK and a Match with UT in Bristol VA, so I
will give you much respect for that and more, good luck." Thanks

Virginia = We got a taste of this blood feud in 1997, when the Mountaineers
won 42-31 in Morgantown. Much to my chagrin, along with that of

Hokie Fans Speak Again. "I have a serious football question
for the Marshall faithful. How do you think that your coaches will
try to approach our running game? From what I have read you were
about 106th v. the run last year, have one returning starter on
the Dline, and some very inexperienced LB's. What have your coaches
done to address this problem? How do you think you will attempt
to handle Jones and Suggs? Unrelated: How many people do you think

What We Need To Do. " I am very excited about this years
team. The defense played a superb game and the offense finally got
going putting up great numbers. I did feel our offensive played
a mediocure game. Appy State was able to pressure Leftwich too much,
and they will have to work those kinks out immediately. Our special
teams were weak overall, and we will have to make imediate improvement.
Overall a B+ performance, which is pretty good for the first game

Hokies. "Get ready Hokies, the Thundering Herd is rolling
in. here comes our oppurtunity to prove we are one of the nations
top teams. I feel we have a great chance knocking off the Hokies
this year. VT plays a very similiar defense, as we are running this
year with 8 in the box and man to man on the corners. if the O-line
does a better job this time Leftwich should pick apart the small
d-backs of VT secondary. We will have to pass to set up the run
to keep the Hokie D off guard. I was really impressed with our defense
last week, and I think we can contain the Hokie run game for at
least 3 quarters, if we are intense on stopping the run. Now comes
to the biggest question mark of the whole game, special teams. I
am very worried about our kicking game, and coverages on kickoff
and punt return; special teams will be the key to winning this game
in my opinion. We struggled against Appy State and that is not a
good sign at all. I do believe Coach Pruett knows, that is the key
to beating the hokies; and we will work very hard on special teams
for the next 10 days. So here's my summary, we need to jump right
on the hokies and biuld a good lead the first half, contain the
running game, and play solid special teams; if we can do this we
win this game. I bet Coach Pruett will be working on this the next
10 days. my perdiction is that the Herd escapes Hokieland with a
38-35 win, and Leftwich moves up a spot in the Heisman race, passing
for over 400 yards. Go Herd!!!!" Thanks to < HerdFan11 >

Two keys To The VT game. "For the Herd to have a good
day in Blacksburg, it will come down to two things: 1) the O-Line
giving time for Byron to throw, and controlling the line so that
our running game has a chance and 2) absolute perfection on special
teams. Beamer's special teams are so well-played and disciplined
that I fear we will have two blocked kicks, either punts or field
goals." Thanks to < RumorBoy > for this opinion. Reply
