I recently ran across your HerdRumors site, and you did a great
job on it! I really like the image tabs that have the "Home"..."MU

football columnist for my site, and was wondering if you or anyone
you know might be interested in the column. My email is collegefight@villagex.com

Rumor: July 26, 2002 - OH
BABY! "A UCF poster by the name of "BamaKnight" has posted
that WJOX Sportstalk in Birmingham afternoon host Herb Winches today
claimed that he had a reputable source(UAB?) that told him that
C-USA discussed and decided earlier this week in Memphis to add
another school: Marshall. He also stated that once that happens
ABC would then come on board to televise the C-USA championship
game prior to the SEC championship game held the 1st weekend in
Dec." Thanks to < Blevins > for this rumor. Reply

Smack From UCF. These quotes from the Orlando Sentinal on the
MAC Meet the Media in Orlando. "It all started with UCF President
John Hitt referring to the MAC as the "Midwest" Conference
twice during his address to the league Sunday night." And this...
"Amstutz chuckled, but some weren't laughing Sunday night when
new UCF Athletic Director Steve Orsini told league reps that the
Knights, although happy to be in the MAC now, hoped to be a member
of a "major" conference within five years. Jaws apparently
dropped as league members looked at each other with a "what
are we, chopped chitlins?" expression on their faces. Some
coaches, including Marshall's Bob Pruett, felt the remark was a
slap at the MAC." And this... "I can understand how some
coaches might have misunderstood," Orsini said, "but I
wasn't excluding the MAC from our future plans. It's our hope that
the MAC will rise with us." Click

Tidbits. While cruising theHerdSportsPage.com
I came across this great post by DJdaHERDfan, he talks about a new
kicker, C-USA membership, the JUCO QB transfer AND a pretty intresting
rumor about Watts. "Ran into my good buddy today. I hadn't
seen him in a while. He told me that he just got done talking to
his good friend, a doctor who is MU alumni of course and who give
BIG money to MU. He was told by his good friend that MU football
will be going to CUSA 2003. I immediately said,"ok, I'll believe
it when I see it." Click

There. "45 days?? unbelievable, I know it may be early
for some predictions, but who cares. All last year, all the talk
was how bad Marshall's defense was and how great the offense was.
Without a doubt the Herd will have more balance. If you don't think
Bobby will have vastly improved the defense, your crazy. I honestly
feel that this team has the potential to be one of the greatest
in Herd history. Maybe not as good as Chad, Grace, Mercer, Hodges,
Chapman, and those cats where, but hey, I am looking for some new
names to step it up on defense, we all know that Bobby gets the
most out of his players. The game in Blacksburg will be tough, but
i absolutely cannot wait for UCF to come to town. Welcome the the
MAC fellaz. Thats enough, i'm out." Thanks to < Brian >

for former C-USA comish Slive. "Others mentioned as potential
candidates are Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson,
Mid-America Conference commissioner Rick Chryst, Ohio Valley Conference

Lindberg."What will this mean for the Herd? Who knows, but

Rumor: July 10, 2002 - MU
& WVU in the Same Conference? I found this posted on the
C-USA board. "It sounds like there is agreement between our
members in the direction of C-USA and what they will look for in
a new commish. In addition, Marshall still tops the list for expansion.
We will move onto expansion very quickly once Slive's replacement
is on board. The money, exposure and the increase in the stength
of C-USA fb are too crtical not to invite Marshall. We've got to
position ourselves for the next round of BCS changes. The presidents
are clearly focused on this issue.
It also appears that the BCS will move to control a national playoff.
One proposal will include the following:" Click

Comment: July 9, 2002 - New
WRVC Call-In Show. I found this post by G Cy on the GoHerd.com
board pertaining to the new call-in show on WRVC. For those
of you that aren't familiar with this topic, last week WRVC shortened
a two hour Marshall Sports show down to one hour. The second hour
was replaced with another show that has historically been WVU oriented.
MU fans protested and were told that the show would be changing
formats to include Marshall as one of it's sports topics. The following
is G Cy's post..."Tony said on the show tonight (he was on
vacation last week) that it was his show and he would decide the
topics and if you called and didn't want to talk about his topic
you weren't getting on the air. He said the format would not change
because he was going to talk about what he was knowledgeable about
and that was WVU athletics, one because he did their games and two
because he was close to the coaches and athletic staff and he was
also in Morgantown and this made it easy to get info and informed
guests. He did say he might occasionally ask Mitch Vingle about
MU when Mitch is on and he knows Mitch has attended a MU practice.
I figured that was how it was going to be because the hosts and
the guests on the show spend so much time around WVU they are not
very knowledgeable about other areas of sports and that is really
to be expected of them." Click

Question: July 8, 2002 - New
Uniforms? "Has anyone been hearing anything about the new
uniforms for football this season? Last year at this time it was
all that was being talked about,...we are still change our color
of GREEN??? I've been asking around and everything seems to be very...hush
hush. All I have heard has been the same talk from last year...new
color of green...and the new logo will be featured on the uniforms.
But I'm hopeing for some stripes, is it just me or has anyone else
noticed we need some." Thanks to < FEELtheThunder > for

Between The Horns: July 8, 2002
- Laugh A Little. Our very own Secret Agent #70 is at
agian. "CUSA doesn’t have the attendance everyone thinks.
Do you recall a game on ESPN between TCU and Southern Miss last
year? Probably not. Let me fill you in - NO ONE WAS THERE! CUSA
is in the same boat as the MAC. A few cash cows and lot of parasites
along for the ride. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see
the biggest of the MAC join with the biggest of CUSA to form a new
conference in the next year or two." Click

Opinion: July 6, 2002 - Nothing
to Prove. "Do we really need to play WVU? Its simple to
see which directions the two programs are heading. We are scheduling
big name schools to play, while the mountaineers are scheduling
doormat teams that secure at least a couple of victories for there
pride. YES, I agree that WVU is in a much tougher conference but
it doesn't mean anything when you consistently lose to every big
team in your conference. WVU's only victories last season were against
two MAC schools and a POWERFUL (catch the sarcasm) Rutgers team.
WVU went 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the their conference. One would
almost feel compelled to count the loss to Temple as a double loss
since they played them at home. we have nothing to prove by beating
the mountaineers. All it proves is that we can beat a team who Temple
can consistently handle. Nothing to prove! Go Herd!" Thanks

Opinion: July 2, 2002 - Fight
the Good Fight. "On 7-1-02 Kindred Communications and WRVC
AM 930 announced plans to reduce Sideline Sports from a 2-hour show
to a 1-hour show. This decision was bad, but it became offensive
when they announced the 2nd hour would be replaced by Metro News
Statewide Sports Line, a WVU oriented program. We should expect
better treatment and concern from our local media outlets. We must
let them know that we will not allow this to happen without a fight."
