2001 - I'm Starved... Lets Eat. Thought I'd let everyone know that
from what I've seen, the Marshall Hall of Fame Cafe is getting
close to finished. Over the past several days I have seen the delivery
trucks unload booths and awnings and the painters seem to be going over
the finishing touches on the exterior. I can't wait... Hey I wonder if
they serve gator meat? What
are your opinions? What have you herd?

2001 - Are You Stoked? (There
is 1 Opinion to this Post)
In response to all the C-USA rumors, MarshallHerdFan2@msn.com
sent me this Opinion.. "Well,
the big date has come and gone without any announcements from Marshall
or C-USA. Was this just fantasy dreamed up to stoke our fires?"
Well HerdFan2, all
I can say is that the deadline (June 23) was for the Herd to make a decision
for commitment. That doesn't mean that they were going to publicly announce
it. They might wait until Media Day (August 18) and announce it along
with the new logo. I've also heard that Marshall doesn't want to rile
the Mac since they need to secure at least one more year in the Conference.

2001 - Deny Crum Thinks Marshall is a Good Fit for C-USA. (There
is 1 Opinion to this Post)
Here's the teaser.. "It's
not easy to get there," Crum said of Huntington. "But there are other
places in the league like Hattiesburg (Miss.) that aren't easy to get
to, either. Marshall would do fine in Conference USA if they need a team."
And here's
the link to the story. What

2001 - Ban The Banner. Ahhh, I've finally rid the site of that terrible
banner at the bottom of the page. As we get closer to the football season
I have plans to redesign the site and move it to my OS X Apache server.
But until then, keep those Rumors coming.

2001 - Rich Rodriquez Jokes with Pruett. The Herald Dispatch posted
a story in which WVU coach Rich Rodriques jokingly mentions the Herd changing
conferences. "What coach Pruett
has done at Marshall is amazing," he said. "He took over a good program
and made it better. We're not going to let him in the Big East (Conference).
They might go somewhere else, but we're not going to let them in our league."

2001 - The Best of Mid Atlantic Sports - Sorry WVU. Marshall football
is named along with Seton Hall basketball, Penn State football, and Virginia
Tech football as one of the top sports programs in the Mid Atlantic region.
You
can read the article here. No mention of WVU at all. What
are your opinions? What have you herd?
Rumor:
June 25,
2001 - That Houston Offer From the Past. Do you remember a while back
when Houston offered Pruett the head coaching job? Well, according to
the grapevine... "Pruett
had several reasons to decline the Houston offer, the obvious were reported
in the papers but one reason was the assurance that the Herd would soon
be in the same conference. If you weigh the facts, he could have gone
to Houston and coached a decent team in a bigger conference or he could
wait a few years and coach a great team in a bigger conference."
Thanks to <Anonymous>

2001 - WVU Hoo. Well, I knew it wouldn't last long. With the Big East
losing two bowl lock-ins and with the contract running out between the
Motor City Bowl and C-USA in 2002 it looks like the BE might come crawling
to the MCB. We just might play WVU after all.

2001 - Good Point. Dave Ross sent in this comment about the Spiders
leaving the CAA. Here's what he had to say. "Yeah,
they announced the move to the A-10 just before NCAA play-offs this year.
I believe they moved all sports. This was one reason some Herd fans felt
that the Colonial was NOT a good move. The loss of Richmond has weakened
the conference somewhat. But, a good Marshall showing this year could
really set up as an anchor team in the colonial in the following years
if allowed to join. The way I see it, they have the same bids, if not
more, than does the MAC to postseason play. What the h**l's the difference?"
Thanks Dave. What are your opinions? What have

2001 - What a Lively Discussion. Check out the discussion at the C-USA
Fan board, there seems to be an involved thread about Marshall. Oh,
and by the way, there's an interesting little post by a J_Coyle that bashes
the Herd and implies that J_Coyle is a Miami fan. Go figure, he didn't
leave his e-mail there either. What

from
Jim Coyle here's what "Einstein"
had to say "All the b***s***
about Marshall going to CUSA is total b***s*** that was spread by Marshall
fans. Out side of Huntington Marshall is not important." I
think someone's jealous, too bad he wasn't tough to leave his e-mail.

2001 - And the Plot Thickens. I received this info early this morning,
"Conf USA has offered MU
the football only position. This is true. MU officials have until the
23rd to make a decision. MU officials are weighing the costs of membership
to CONF USA and the move of all other sports to the Colonial Conf."
Hmmmmmm. Thanks
to <Anonymous> for this rumor. Here's the list of schools in the

2001 - More C-USA Rumors. I received this info in an e-mail late yesterday,
it reads... "The officials
in CONF-USA have already offered Marshall the football only spot. Marshall
administrators are currently making the final decision (based on economics)
of whether or not the move will be made. CONF-USA has given MU until the
22 (or 23?) to make their decision." This is big news. Thanks

Rivals.com recently
contacted HerdRumors.com wanting us to join their "sports network."
After reviewing their conditions I decided to remain an Independent web
site. Though there would be a revenue coming in if I joined, I decided
that I do not want to relinquish ANY creative license or any editing decisions
to a third party. So, HerdRumors.com is staying put and lovin' every minute

2001 - More C-USA Rumors. (There
are 2 Opinions to this Post)
The Sun
Herald from Biloxi Mississippi has posted an article about the 12th
team expansion of C-USA. Marshall is named as the top candidate, but one
of the negatives they mentioned was this "Negatives:
Rural location makes for an unattractive and difficult travel destination.
C-USA presidents might question school's academics. NCAA has been snooping
around recently." What's up with that? Anyway, here's a link
to the article. What are your opinions?

Opinion:
June 10, 2001 - Wake
the Dead.
"I hope that the Herd can work out a deal to play the Deacons. When
I heard that Jim Grobe took the job at Wake I was hoping that they could
work out a deal to play each other. There are a lot of Herd fans here
in North Carolina, so it would be good to see the Herd come down to Winston
along with the Herd faithful.
I believe this would be a great series, and I don't see any reason why
Wake couldn't go to Huntington to play. Bowman Gray Stadium is about the
size of Marshall Stadium, but they do not have grandstand seating in the
end zone. They allow people to sit on the grass hill some what like Death
Valley in Clemson.
Another good reason to play Wake Forest would be because Winston is the
home of ISP Sports, and Stan Cotten, the voice of the Deacons, used to
be the voice of the Herd before 1996. This might not be the biggest reason
to play Wake, but it's somewhat significant. I just hope they can work
a deal out." Thank
you <Justin Johnson> for that great opinion. What are your opinions?

- Thunder in the Swamp. It's not just my opinion, but I think the
Gators are looking ahead to the Tennessee game on the 15th. The Herd can
really use this chance to show the rest of the country what we're made
of. And guess what, Pruett knows their offense and their defense. What

- Two Fer. And the rumors are flying. Now I'm being told that the
Herd is working on a two year deal with FSU. That would be perfect if
it was a "home and home series", but I doubt it. What have you

- Bring 'Em On. With the rumor of the Herd scheduling the Seminoles
for a 2008 meeting, everyone is overlooking the possibilities of games
between Wake Forest and Ohio State. With Jim
Grobe and Jim
Tressel at the helms of these two schools it is very possible that
we can get a series going with them. Well, that's what I've herd. What
