April 2002

Rumor: April 30, 2002 - A Major Chance. "I was listening to Chuck Landon on the radio this on Sunday, and he said that when the NFL came down to watch Randy Moss, Coach Pruett called Sim Fryson (I think it was him) and told him to get ahold of Major Harris and have hime come down so the NFL could get a peak at him. I thought that was cool of Bobby. " Thanks to < Anonymous > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Rumor: April 29, 2002 - May Announcements. "After reading a post on here a week or so ago stating that there will be some big announcements is true... now Ernie is writing about it in the HD." Thanks to < HerdLover78 > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Rumor: April 25, 2002 - The OSU Game. While cruising GoHerd.com I came across this interesting rumor posted by DJdaHERDfan... "On this one, the blame lies totally with Marshall. Last year OSU offered MU a game at Columbus paying MU 400k. Marshall responded with a counter offer... everything the same except MU getting more money(500k). OSU then told MU that the deal is on the table for 400k. MU declined." Click here to read the rest of the thread. Reply to this post. (1 Reply)

Rumor: April 25, 2002 - The TCU Game. While cruising GoHerd.com (again... I really like this site) I came across another interesting rumor posted by DJdaHERDfan... "It is a fact that the blame lies with both Marshall and TCU for not having a 12th game 2002. Marshall knew right after 9-11-01 that TCU was talking about backing out or playing the game in Fort Worth. Then months later it became more detailed information coming out from TCU. TCU had originally said that they wanted to play in Fort Worth. At the time MU was arguing the point about the first game being cancelled and TCU honor the 2nd game in Huntington." Rumor: April 23, 2002 - All Sports Opening in C-USA? The Tuscaloosa News reports that UAB, a football and basketball member of C-USA may have their athletic programs dropped if they don't start making money "UA trustees voted Friday to give UAB's struggling athletics department two years to start operating in the black or the entire department - including the football and men's basketball teams - will be shut down." Link: April 19, 2002 - Torn ACL. I found this on HokieSportsInfo.com "Virginia Tech quarterback Grant Noel underwent an MRI of his left knee Thursday morning at 7 o'clock at Montgomery Regional Hospital to evaluate the lateral meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament. The tests came back positive for a torn ACL in the knee." Click here to read the rest of the article. Reply to this post. (2 Replies)

Rumor: April 17, 2002 - Riddle Me This. While cruising Lets-go-Herd.com I came across this intriguing post by Herdman "May should be an exciting month. Spring a time of renewal. A time of fresh starts. A time of beginning. A time of a new dawn. A new sunrise. New.....and fresh. But, yet links to the past as well. A time of announcements... a time for new starts." The rest of the thread is all about the guesses to this riddle, and they are VERY interesting so click here to read the rest of the thread. Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Comment: April 17, 2002 - BIAS. "I know I'm not the first poster to bring this up, but the Sports Only MAC board is the most biased board there is. The moderators are so anti-Marshall that it's ridiculous. Please... everyone, boycott this ludicrous site by never visiting or posting AND if you know of someone who does post there try to convince them not to." Thanks to < CP > for that Comment. Comment: April 16, 2002 - The Run D. "I made it to the Green & White game over the weekend, and let me tell you that the run "D" looked very impressive. They were fast.... very fast and at times gave the offensive line some trouble. We're going to be unstoppable this year. Go Herd!" Thanks to < StanleyZ > for that Comment. Reply to this post. Rumor: April 12, 2002 - WVU's Dakitch Resigns. Here's an interesting post I found on Lets-Go-Herd.com "Just heard on WCHS that Dan Dakitch has resigned as WVU's coach. There are, are you ready to read this, NCAA VIOLATIONS RELATING TO AMATEUR STATUS OF PLAYER LAST SEASON." Click here to read the entire thread. Reply to this post. (2 Replies)

Comment: April 12, 2002 - #18. "Stewart Mandel released his last top 40 poll for the next few months and our beloved Marshall sits at number 18." Click here to read the article. Thanks to < Nick > for the Link. Reply to this post. (1 Reply)

Comment: April 10, 2002 - Herd Nationwide. I was talking to my Barber yesterday and he was telling me about his recent vacation to San Francisco. He said while checking in to his hotel the Bell Hop asked him were he was from... my Barber responded "from West Virginia".... the Bell Hop responded by saying "you're not a WVU fan are you" and my Barber said NO. The Bell Hop then said "GO HERD!" Reply to this post. (3 Replies)

Rumor: April 9, 2002 - Now This is Interesting. I found this post on the Southern Miss board. "Marshall Head Coach Pruett was watching our practice. He told us he had coached with Jeff at Wake Forest, and our DB Coach, Hopson, was on his staff at Marshall. We assume he was in the area visiting his son, who is a coach in Mendenhall. He said joining CUSA was still a possibility for Marshall." Click here to read the rest of the thread. Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Comment: April 8, 2002 - Who Woulda Thunk It? Yesterday I saw Coach Pruett at the local Exxon in Barboursville. I chatted with him for a minute and then went on my way. Once in my car I started to think how lucky we Marshall fans are. Who would ever think that you could run into the coach of a Top 25 team at a gas station in West Virginia, much less Barboursville. And this isn't a rare thing, coach Pruett is seen all over the place by fans. Heck I remember seeing him at Pet Land in the Mall the morning before the Temple game. I just think that Marshall and Cabell County for that matter is very lucky to have Coach Pruett... like I said before.... "Who would ever think that you could run into the coach of a Top 25 team at a gas station in West Virginia, much less Barboursville." Reply to this post. (2 Replies)

Opinion: April 6, 2002 - Rock The BCS / NCAA Boat! "Would it be reasonable to voice an opinion about the BCS and the NCAA using this email link - newcase.atr@usdoj.gov - off of this page? http://www.usdoj.gov/atr/contact/newcase.htm". Everyone voice your opinon! Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Comment: April 5, 2002 - Set the Record Straight. CBS Sportsline sets the record straignt about the original intentions for the pieces of the plane and how they should be used. "Marshall coach Bob Pruett seemingly is trying to distance himself from the situation until he knows more. Griffith and his partner in the project, Carl Berry, have been criticized. They say early wire service stories were hurtful to their cause, using the term "good luck charm." Click here to read the entire article." Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Links: April 5, 2002 - Kudos to the Herd. "Collegefootballnews.com released there newest ranking of the top 50 teams. Marshall is 28th. Here is what they had to say. "So who's going to stop this offense? If the Herd doesn't end the season in the top two in total offense, it'll be a disappointment." Click here to see the top 50." Marshall has two players on the Lombardi Watch List. They are Steve Sciullo and Nathan McPeek." Click here to see the entire list. Thanks to < Nick Adkins > for the Links. Reply to this post. Rumor: April 4, 2002 - Go West Reply. This was posted as a Reply to the Go West Rumor...
"Rumor is your rumor is confirmed - My source is a pretty reliable one (a writer, but that's all I can say) and the story I heard is pretty close to HerdRumors. West has until the end of June to find another job or whatever he's going to do because he's outta there. Could it be a psuedo-house cleaning operation before a move to another conference? Just wonderin'... " Thanks to < JoBob > for that Rumor. Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Rumor: April 3, 2002 - Go West. "I have heard from a good source that Lance West is GONE and they might announce it next week or maybe a little later. Now we know why he hasn't been seen lately. The same source told me about this a couple months ago and said they gave him some time to find a place to go and then they were going to boot him. Thank Goodness!! Hope this is true!!" Thanks to < Eric > for that Rumor. Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Link: April 2, 2002 - Spoilers. "Marshall Thundering Herd-Led by Byron Leftwich and a gaggle of gifted receivers, the Herd offense should hum all season long. It's the defense - see last season - that could once again be Bob Pruett's Waterloo. Word is that the D will be a little better, but I'm not sure that's saying much. The team will also be challenged by the loss of coordinators on both sides of the ball." As told by CollegeFootballNews.com click here to read the rest of the article. Thanks to < Anonymous > for this Link. Reply to this post. (0 Replies)

Rumor: April 1, 2002 - Wolfpack. "My daughter who lives in Raleigh, NC called me a few minutes ago, and said her boss (NCST alumni - big supporter) told her that Marshall an NCST have agreed on a football game this year. She did not know any specifics (when/where) or how they moved the schedule for this to happen. I hope her boss is correct in his information! " Thanks to < JFS > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. Opinion: April 1, 2002 - Exportation. "Since nobody seems to want the head coaching job at WVU, why don't we export Greg White. His hiring would permanently sabotage their program's prospects. And this opinion is no April Fool." Thanks to < David > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (2 Replies)

Opinion: April 1, 2002 - I'm All For It. "In response to the previous comment about using the pieces of the plane for the players to touch before games I have to say that I AM ALL FOR IT. What better motivation is there to go out on the field and play at 100mph for 60 minutes in honor of those that couldn't? GO HERD - let's get it done." Thanks to < Jeremy > for that Opinion.
