Oct 31, 2001 - Here Today Gone to Maui (er um - Honolulu). "I
am a huge HERD fan. I have been for as long as I can remember liking
football. I am in the military and I am currently stationed at Hickam
AFB, HI. Sometimes I feel left out of the HERD NATION because I
am unable to attend Herd games. I am also unable to watch on TV.
I do manage to listen to internet broadcasts when I am not at work.
My point is this: Feel blessed that all of you so called HERD fans
are not stuck somewhere thousands of miles away from your homes
or Huntington. Sometimes, knowing that the HERD is playing on Saturday
gets me through the week. So to all HERD fans, please stop taking
everything for granted. Get out and support our team. It sickens
me to see that Toledo and Western Michigan draw bigger crowds each
week than the Herd. We are supposed to be the class of the MAC,
but we are not. And we won't be until our fans go out each week
and cram into whatever stadium that the HERD is playing in. When
that happens, then we can deservingly be called "THE CLASS OF THE
MAC!"Thanks to <

Oct 30, 2001 - Attendance II. "I
have to vent some anger and say that you so called "Herd Fans"
are lousy! I was absolutely sickened at the attendance this past
weekend and just want all you "fans" to know. I am sick
of the excuses of "it is too cold!" or "It is on
TV so I'll just stay home" crap!! That is a no good fan. Far
weather fans is what that is called. It is embarassing to look in
the stands and see hardly anyone there. It is very sad people! Very
SAD! I go to every game at home and one of my best friends and his
wife travel from Canton, OH to go to every home game. But these
pitiful fans have to go a couple miles to see their team play and
complain about it. It goes back to what I have been saying all along
and that is to black out the games in a 75-100 mile radius and that
should draw more attendance. It wasn't a coincidence that we had
the 4th largest home crowd when they did black it out. But they
had so many people whine and complain about it I guess they changed
it back. If you don't go to any games then don't support the Herd.
If you live in town and don't go to games then shame on you! Our
students are some of the worst for attending games. Something has
to be done to keep them there and get them excited about the game.
The ones that do come leave at the half no matter what the score
is. We have a big problem and if no one can see it then you are
blind. I know that some of it has to do with the teams we play but
come on people we are a top 30 team in the nation!! Support your
team!! WVV loses every game they play but they pack their stadium.
You want those losers to show us up?! I think not! Show some pride
and come to games and if not then you shouldn't be a HERD "Thanks

Oct 29, 2001 - Attendance. "I
wish the Herd "faithful" would take advantage of living
in the Charleston-Huntington area. I had to move with my job and
can no longer attend MU butt-kickings every Saturday night. I paid
$12 last night to get the game on pay-per-view just so I could see
the Herd on TV and was extremely disappointed to see only 22,000
people there. I read those lame excuses about the spread and the
weather. Hello? It wasn't that long ago that MU was the one getting
creamed every weekend. And the weather? I've seen colder weather
in Huntington when the house was packed. MU can only play the games
on the schedule and the least the locals can do is go and support
them. For me to see a game I have to take a day's vacation and buy
a plane ticket. I'll be there for the OU game and I hope to see
at least 35,000 with me". Thanks

I get the feeling that no one else will notice it? Oh, I know who'll
overlook it... Everyone in the MAC and the Heisman voters. Sorry
Byron, you need to have 4 straight games for over 400 yards before

Oct 27, 2001 - Move on People! "Marshall
University should dump the Mid-American Conference as soon as possible.
The conference continually fails to honor the achievements of the
Herd's all-stars such as Byron Leftwich. Despite being the top-rated
passer in the MAC last season, and leading his team to a win in the
conference championship,Byron was snubbed when it came time to pick
the all-conference team. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe they simply
overlooked the sophomore,first-year starter, right? Wrong!!! Through
his first six games this season Leftwich is ranked 2nd. Nationally
in passing yardage and is first in the MAC with 18 touchdown passes.
Not to mention he has had two 400-plus yard games. Despite all of
these amazing accomplishments,Byron has not won conference player
of the week even one time this season. Maybe the powers that be
will notice Leftwich's numbers by the end of the season but I wouldn't
hold my breath Herd fans. Let's face it,Marshall doesn't need the
MAC, the MAC needs Marshall. If! the conference has something personal
against the Herd and its players than its time for us to move on."

Oct 26, 2001 - The Plot Thickens. According to the Birmingham
Post - Herald, C-USA is doomed to repeat the ways of the WAC.
"In
the end, the conference simply grew to the point that it became
unwieldy. There were too many teams with too many different interests
spread out over too much of the country. The schools began bickering
amongst themselves. What was good for one was not necessarily good
for all. This constant infighting led to an implosion, and finally
the conference split apart" Click

first taste of the Herd when they visit our Home on the Range next
year. "Coach
K sounded surprised when Marc Daniels mentioned the UCF-Marshall
game next season would be played in Huntington, WV. Not sure where
Marc got his info..." The
same thread also talks about Marshall finalizing the deal with the
MAC either yesterday or today. Now that's interesting. "From
what I recalled, Coach K mentioned that Marshall was supposed to
finalize their agreement with the MAC today... It may have been
signed, but Coach K wasn't sure. The UCF's Trustees needed to approve
UCF entering the MAC...should happen very soon. (I don't recall
Coach K mentioning time frame on when this will happen)..."

Great new post by Gary,
"The

Oct 17, 2001 - Minority. "Perhaps
I'm in the minority, but I'm glad that Marshall is not making a
lateral move to C-USA. In time--with patience--the Herd will do
better than moving to league that doesn't stand up well (competition
wise) to the MAC. Meanwhile, the MAC needs to force its "weak
sisters" to improve attendance and competitiveness or face
removal from the conference. As I've said before Marshall MUST win
games against the Floridas and Virginia Techs to force conferences
to see the advantage of their Presence. Furthermore, women's sports
and the so-called "minor sports" must be upgraded so that
MU doesn't have to seek a second conference affiliation - which
was the ultimate downfall to their C-USA bid. Chin up, Herd fans--again,
WE CAN DO BETTER THAN C-USA, but IT WILL TAKE TIME and "big
time" wins to do it." Thanks

this is all a done deal and we are not leaving, I think I speak

the MAC for another year and dominating it year in and year out.
Then going to the Motor City Bowl. I don't think this is a done
decision myself and they are just not going to say otherwise until
we have a spot for other sports. We will leave because we have to.
People around here are getting very tired of seeing us play these
crappy teams and whip them every year. It just isn't exciting going
to the games when you play Kent and Akron every year. If Marshall
is smart they will find any way to leave if not then I think eventually
Pruett will be gone. It is just a matter of time. Another thing,
Marshall is screwing up by not blacking out the games again. It

get a new chant started at Marshall games. They play the AC/DC song
Thunderstruck when we come out so we should start the "Thunder

when they say "Thunder!" everyone says it. That would
really psych out the other team. Imagine the whole stadium yelling

less enthusiastic they are, I mean they have won it all, four times.
Its like fishing and catching the some type of fish over and over
again, it gets old, fun at first, but then you want something different.
There is a difference this year, all the talk (publicly) about Marshall
is starting to sound as if Marshall is just a regular team ,there
not, there a very good team. Teams past were touted as great teams,
its seems as though the confidence is fading! So my point is this,
Marshall has great fans im one of them, how much do we as fans play
a role in this decision to switch conferences? I mean we wanted
a Red Lobster here, which wouldn't have been here. But people came
together and we got what we wanted! How about us fans get together

more about the view from the field looking into the stands at MAC
stadiums. As one Marshall official put it this week, the MAC has
too many fans disguised as empty seats." Reply

Oct 4, 2001 - Rid of Ridpath. According to the Herald
Dispatch... "David
Ridpath, the Marshall University athletic department director of
compliance, has taken a new position as the school's director of
judicial affairs. Ridpath was a central figure in the ongoing NCAA
investigation for infractions involving a former staff member who
provided impermissible academic assistance to student-athletes.
Ridpath said he was burned out by the investigation and has been
job hunting the last six months. "I know what people will think,
but I can't control that," he said. "By no means was I
forced into this." Reply

Oct 3, 2001 - Blackout! "The
blackout was the smartest thing Marshall has done in a while. I
knew if it happened you would get more people to the game. If that
would have been on TV you would have had a few thousand less. Still
needs to improve though. If Marshall is smart they will continue
to black out all home games to improve attendance and after a while
people will get used to the idea. Maybe they should do it within
a 100 mile radius or something like that. Look for it to happen
more often. God Bless America!" Thanks to < Eric

Oct 2, 2001 - Avoidance. "Ohioans
take over the Pontiac Silverdome for a night, as bowl moves to avoid
Marshall." That's what CBS Sportsline says about the
Motor City Bowl. They've picked Marshall to face ECU in the Mobile
Bowl. Click

Oct 2, 2001 - Buggs? "Where
was Buggs at?? He ran hard everytime he touched the ball against
UMASS and he didn't get any touches against BG. Whats up with that.
I'm not questioning Wallace's ability but for awhile he was ineffective,
why not change it up. THe D stepped up when it had to but needs
to play like that the whole game. Leftwich was his usual self as
well as Watts. Herd showed alot of character coming back to get
the win. The only thing that concerns me is the Herd secondary.
I know Satterwhite made a couple big plays but that still doesn't
make up gettin beat numerous times. I know just like last year,
the herd will improve vastly as the year progresses. As for the
black out, I love it, get the fans in the stands, if there were
32,000 for BG, there can be 35,000 for Akron and OU, get the lazy
ones outta the recliner and into the stands, also, whoever decided
to play Britney Spears right before Marshall came out needs to be
fired, as well as the operator of the big screen. !
WE do not need to see every single replay, the biggest challenge
for the herd this year is gonna be at Miami, herd fans need to get
there, I know i will be..." Thanks to < leroy2@aol.com

Oct 1, 2001 - Missing in Action. I was really looking forward
to seeing Buggs and Kellett in the back field. I think they deserved
the action of play in a big game. Maybe we'll see them next week.

Oct 1, 2001 - Can They Do That? "What
concerns me with MAC officials and the Conf. USA issue is what happens
when the info. About a move to USA and NCAA rulings are announced?
Does the MAC try to keep us out of the MACC and or bowls?"
