January 2002

Rumor: Jan 31, 2002 - More ESPN Thursday Games. "Looks as if we will be playing BACK to BACK Thursday Night ESPn games. The Central FLorida game will take place on Thursday Sept 19th according to Coach Pruett." Thanks to < Anonymous > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Comment: Jan 31, 2002 - Troy Brown Article. "Too small, too slow, all that stuff,'' says Brown, recalling how swiftly he was once dismissed. Marshall was the only school to offer a scholarship out of Lees-McRae Junior College. Pro teams overlooked him until New England took a chance in the eighth round (a round that no longer exists) and made him the 198th player taken in the 1993 draft." Rumor: Jan 30, 2002 - Walkie Talkie. "i've heard talk of firing lance west (because of the NCAA fiasco) and greg white moving into that position in lue of coaching b-ball. greg white would save face and we would get a new coach (jayson gee or steve wojohowski of duke fame)." Thanks to < Anonymous > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Comment: Jan 30, 2002 - Pre-Season. "CNNSI.com's Stewart Mandel has taken a stab at deciding who will be in the preseason top 25. Marshall made it up at number 17. They can definently make an impact if they go undefeated. Check out the rankings half way down towards the left at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/college/news/2002/01/13/offseason_beat/" Thanks to < Nick Adkins > for this Comment. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 30, 2002 - ESPN Thursdays! "Change your reservations!!! Marshall is playing VT on Thurs. the 12th, ESPN!! I read it in an article on the Daily Mail. VT released their schedule and have the MU game on the 12th on ESPN. I can't wait!" Thanks to < Eric > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 30, 2002 - Don't Trodd on Me! "I saw in the H-D today that Trod Buggs will be a graduate assistant for the Herd next year. That makes me happy, because I always appreciated his attitude of doing what he could to help the team -- whether it was linebacker, special teams or running back. Just think if he can impart some of that drive with the "Tank" -- could the Herd have its first big back in a long time to rush for 1,000 yards? Time will tell...." Thanks to < RumorBoy > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Question: Jan 29, 2002 - What The? "Does anyone out there know if Marshall is going to put anything on the center of the football field, i.e., new MU logo or what? Also, what about the center floor at the Henderson Center, when are they going to update that as well? Just wondering." Thanks to < Anonymous > for this Question. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 29, 2002 - Ultimatum. "I just heard , from someone associated with the b-ball team , that after the Toledo game , White told the team that if they didn't want to play for him and do as he coaches , he would resign at the end of the year . Is this true? who knows , but we can always keep our fingers crossed . This is from someone who is with the team at all times ,i.e. managers , trainers , ass. coaches . We will have to wait and see how this pans out." Thanks to < Zeke > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 29, 2002 - Randy Who? "How about Troy Brown!!! How about TB representing Marshall on the NFL stage. We should be proud. With this, I have one question. Moss who? I'll take TB any day. Good luck Troy!!!" Thanks to < DG> for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 28, 2002 - Box Out. "I have kept silent about Greg White all season and it has finally driven me nuts. Toledo's coach was quoted in the H-D after they beat MU as saying that he was surprised that Marshall didn't even try to box out. Hello? Is that not a fundamental skill. Seems to me I learned that in YMCA league when I was 8. Poor coaching = poor play. Even White should be able to figure that out." Thanks to < Jeremy > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Comment: Jan 28, 2002 - Good Ole' BL. "The announcers at the Senior Bowl stated they were "surprised" that Byron Leftwich didn't declare for the NFL draft as the third ranked QB in college football this year. They went on to say that Byron would undoubtedly be the top QB in 2002." Thanks to < MC > for this Comment. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 28, 2002 - Looking Good. "Looking at this web site prediction on Marshall U. for next season, it occured to me that our schedule may not be so bad after all. By the way it looks, it might be best to keep our schedule the way it is right now, or try to at least. I don't like Appy. St., or Troy St., and we will try to ged rid of TCU, but if we start out ranked this high in the preseason and we go undefeated, we could be ranked anywhere from #3-#7. Unlike in 1999, when we had Fiesta Bowl committees looking at us, and I believe we finished #10 in the BCS polls with a ranking of around #13 or so at the time, even after starting out in the upper 20's in the preseason polls. If we get in the top 6 or so in the two top polls, we could very well be in the top 6 in the BCS, therefore making us an automatic bid (Top 6 automatic) for a BCS Bowl. I don't like the schedule all that much, but it could benefit us for the best in the long run." Thanks to < Anonymous > for this Opinon. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 28, 2002 - Reschedule the Schedule. "I was told today that MU is buying out of the AppySt game and replacing it with a road game to a big time school. Also, TCU will definitely be dropped from the schedule and be replaced with any team willing to come to huntington. Three teams that have been mentioned as possibilities are wake forest, FresnoSt, and Missouri." Thanks to < Anonymous > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 28, 2002 - Make Some Noise. "Looks like MU won't be making any early appearances on national TV thanks to our friends at ABC. CNN/SI reported today, that ABC arranged for the VT 2002 season opener against LSU has been rescheduled for Sunday Sept. 1 so that it can be broadcast on national television. This means that there is practically no chance of the Marshall vs. VT game being moved to Thursday Sept. 5 for broadcast on ESPN. Frank Beamer would have to be a moron to play against a Top 25 team on a really short week. Previously ABC killed The Herd's chance at playing in the Pigskin Classic against Ohio State. What's up with this? Is ABC run by a WVU grad or what? I would urge all loyal MU fans to boycott WCHS TV, the local ABC affiliate, give 'em your 2 cents worth by sending email to news@wchstv.com or call 'em direct at (304)345-4115. I would also urge fans to give the businesses in the area that advertise on WCHS an earful when you get the chance. It's time to stop being passive about being screwed by the powers that be. Raise hell with WCHS, ABC and Disney at every opportunity, let these morons know that if they screw us they're going to take heat like Mike Tyson at a beauty pageant!" Thanks to < MC > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Comment: Jan 25, 2002 - All in The Family. "It looks like the Mountaineers are starting to turn on themselves after getting beating by Marshall twice in the same day! First we win the war for Tank, then we win the Capitol Classic. Visit the Dominion Post and read a very interesting article titled "WVU loosing the recruiting battle" http://www.dominionpost.com/a/sports/2002/01/25/ad/ " Thanks to < BB > for this Comment. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 25, 2002 - Yer Outta Here. "I have to say that the pulling of the fire alarm solidifies my opinion on how pathetic the WVU fans are! That was the most disgusting effort I have ever seen from fans and I fully expect something like that to happen from those people. They are a different breed of rednecks! I am just glad we won and they got to go home as losers, exactly what they are! The fact that we get Tank is also a big "IN YOUR FACE" to WVU and their lousy program. I love that the power is shifting and we are the better team. GO HERD!! By the way, I was on wvsports.com and wrote some true facts about WVU (nothing vulgar) and the owner of the website blacklisted and I am not allowed to respond to anything on their site. Just because the truth hurts. I wrote him an email and asked him why and he said he does not want anything like that about WVU to be said. I guess it was eating him up inside that all those facts were true about their lousy program. So he had to whine and take me off there!" Thanks to < Eric > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 24, 2002 - The Times... They Are A Changin'. "The Tank is comin' to the Herd... and the 'eers are so bitter about it they pulled their scholarship offer off the table. The tide is turning... it will take a long time for the 'eers to get back where they were, and I don't even hate 'em... I just like to give 'em a hard time and laugh at 'em!" Thanks to < RumorBoy > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 24, 2002 - Do the Hokie Pokie? "I smell upset next year for VT. After the greatest offensive season in MU history, we are returning all our key players. Leftwich will prove he is the best QB in the nation, and will be a front-runner for the heisman. Coach Pruett is going to make big changes up front on the D-line, we are going with size up front, finally. remember the name ADKINS, he was a highly recruited LB out of virginia, and has all the tools to be a lot better than YATES was. our outside linebackers and db's are very solid. expect the deffense to perform much better this year against the run. i am very excited about our chances in having the best year in our D1 history. marshall 38 VT 34 GO HERD !!!!" Thanks to < HerdFan11 > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 23, 2002 - Marshall Vs. Oregon State? I found this on the Oregon State board... "I called the marshall ticket office and the lady said that nothing has been released yet, but she did say that it will be a road/TV Game on a Thursday night..." Click here to read the entire thread. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 23, 2002 - Done Deal... Oh Boy. "Sorry but i have a done deal. Mark Mchale is our new OC and Larry Kueck is our new QB Coach. I know it was in the paper but they did'nt say it was a "done deal". Mchale wil do a great job at that position. He did it at So MIss and he recruited Brett Favre to So MIss while he was there. We're in good hands. " Thanks to < HerdFan93 > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 23, 2002 - Good Idea. "I have brought this up before and will continue to bring it up more and more as we get closer to next season. I want to start the "Thunder Chant"! When MU comes out to Thunderstruck the crowd would start chanting "Thunder!!". Just like the song says. I think this would be very intimidating for the other team and it is a changeup to We are Marshall. If anyone has any suggestions on getting this going then let me know. This year would be a good time for a change! Just a new excitement. LET'S GET IT STARTED!!" Thanks to < Eric > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 22, 2002 - Back in Black. "Rumor has it from a reliable source that Marshall was supposed to wear all black uniforms if they were the home team in the bowl game. Also, for next season, a possible nine different variations of the uniforms could be worn. All black, all new dark green, and all white + all of the different combinations of them. Can anyone confirm this?" Thanks to < Shane > for this Rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 22, 2002 - Piggie. "I am very disappointed about Ohio St. saying we are not in the running for the Pigskin Classic. They are just afraid we will come there and beat them and make them look bad and I know we would! I am sick of the excuses from larger schools not wanting to play us. The only reason why Ohio St. won't play us is because we will be ranked higher than them and will have a better team. They know we are good but it is that haunting fact that we are a MAC school and they do not want to take that chance on a team that has a Heisman candidate and one of the best offenses in the nation. Until we get into a larger conference (Not CUSA) then this will remain a problem. It is a shame that we have had such great teams and players in the past and we never get the chance to prove we are good. We got to play Florida last year but that was a very young and inexperienced team. Then you had all NCAA troubles during that and a subpar D. This year will be different if we got to prove it. PL! aying Ohio St. would be a good name to play. At least we will get to play VA Tech. WE win that one then we earn some respect. We will see." Thanks to < Eric > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Comment: Jan 22, 2002 - Would You Like Fries With That? Gregory writes..... "I'd like to see the web page more current with news about recruiting."
HerdRumors Response: Jan 22, 2002 - Check This Out? Gregory, since this site focuses on Rumors and Fan Opinions I would hate to redirect the focus to content that is available elsewhere. But if you're still Jonesing for some MU recruiting news then you should check out this local site by Chris McComas, it's called TheMPI.com. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 22, 2002 - Herd Song. This opinion is in response to the January 15 - Song From the Heart post. "I would like for you to consider another song for Marshall. I wrote a song for the State Lottery Commision called WV Morning and for me it was a love song about WV. I'm sure many of you saw the commercial this fall and winter. Please check it out and give me your opinion. It is presently on the WV lottery web site. Thanks. Love WV and the Herd....! " Thanks to < Janhaddox > for this Opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 21, 2002 - No More Done Deals. "I wish people would stop reporting "done deals" on here. If you have rumors, report them (it adds to the excitment on the board), but please stop saying things are a done deal. Everytime someone says it's a done deal, the deal never gets done!!!" Thanks to < RC > for this opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 21, 2002 - Is it Time? "Its time for coach White to go!!! He's a great recruiter but not a great coach. This was suppose to be our break out year, but instead we suck!!All this great talent is wasted. the season is an enbarrassment. I'm a big time Herd supporter, but I'm getting sick of his style of coaching. NO DEFENSE, NO REBOUNDING, NO TEAM CHEMISTRY, AND NO HEART! they are the most passive players I have ever watched. If they practice rebounding so much and don;t do it a game, what does that say? They do not listen to the coach. Remember a team takes on a coaches mentality and personality. This is the tallest lin up we have ever started and they connot rebound!! I cannot wait to see the Capital Classic. WVU will break their 7 game losing streak and embarrass us in the process!!" Thanks to < Marshall Man > for this opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 21, 2002 - No More Pigskin. "Marshall is not in the running for the Pigskin Classic, says Geiger. Andy Geiger OSU's athletic director is reported as saying that Marshall is definately not in the running to play OSU in the Pigskin Classic. People close to Geiger say that his personal thoughts were that OSU has too much to lose if Marshall came to Columbus and beat the Buckeyes." Thanks to < michaelson1@yahoo.com > for this rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 18, 2002 - It's Startin' Already... Woo Hoo! "How bad is TECH going to beat Marshall next year." Found this on the VPI board, click here to read the entire thread. Actually I sense a little respect in this thread. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 17, 2002 - EK Speaks! "Just to solidify my rumor about the pigskin classic go to www.wvgazette.com and go to sports. MU has been contacted by the Pigskin classic people. They also mention that we may play Oregon St. for a home-away game this year. Sounds good to me!! Bring it!!! Who needs to play those Mountaineers!" Thanks to < EK > for that rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 16, 2002 - Pigskin Classic. "I have a hot rumor! I have talked to one of the players and a person that travels with the team and they have both informed me that we could possibly be playing in the Pigskin Classic in August against Ohio State!! They have told me that it is pretty much a done deal and they are working it all out. This will boost the Heisman coverage for Leftwich. The player also told me that the VA Tech game will be Thurs. night on ESPN. Can't wait till next season! Go Herd!". Thanks to < EK > for that rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Commetn: Jan 15, 2002 - Song Fron the heart! I got some flack from people saying that "Country Roads" was WVU's song. So I say that we (Marshall) should embrace this song... "Up in the West Virginia Hills". It's written by a West Virginian (Todd Buge) and the recording that I point to was recorded on Mountain Stage. Click on the following link and download "Up in the West Virginia Hills". Enjoy. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 15, 2002 - Oh Yeah! "I heard Bill Legg will be announced soon as OC. I also "Herd" that Tank will commit to Marshall this friday." Thanks to < MB > for this rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Between the Horns: Jan 15, 2002 - Another great editorial from the notorious Secret Agent #70. "Personally, I think this little shindig at Oakes field is a testing ground to see what kind of fan response the Herd has outside of Huntington. I can almost see the legislators kicking back and thinking..."we can make money off this". Go Mayor Go! Go for it on 4th and inches when you can. Hey, gimme a hot dog! - ka ching!" Question: Jan 12, 2002 - 2002 Schedule? "Does anyone know what the Herd's schedule will look like in 2002?" Thanks to < Dave > for this question. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Comment: Jan 12, 2002 - Country Roads! Who here is tired of the Marshall band playing "Georgia on My Mind"? What's up with that? Sometimes we just need a little JD. Click here to download Country Roads (you'll need an MP3 player, but it's Almost Heaven!). Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Comment: Jan 12, 2002 - Later Coach Z. Here's a great article about our own coach Z and UF's coach Z and how they came to know each other."Florida fans will be happy to know that only one winning team scored more points in its bowl game than Florida. That was Zaunbrecher's Marshall offense, which produced 64 points in a 64-61 double-overtime victory over East Carolina in the GMAC Bowl. Florida beat Maryland 56-23 in the Orange Bowl." Rumor: Jan 12, 2002 - Don't Let the Door.... "I talked to a couple of my contacts and it looks like your rumor on Greg White's departure is right on. Coach Pruett and the football team has spoiled boosters with winning and winning championships, they've just run out of patience for Greg White and his mediorcity. His run ins with the Big Green and main members have just come about this season. Rumors are even starting to swirl about a possible replacement, including Lefty Driesell (head coach at Georgia State), Steve Wojciechowski (Asst Coach for Mike Krzyzewski at Duke), and John Pelphrey (Asst Coach for Billy Donovan at Florida, was an asst at Marshall for two years)." Thanks to < Anonymous > for this rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 11, 2002 - Nice Knowin' Ya. "G. White to step down at the end of season regardless . The confrontation with the former head of the Big Green is what eventually will do him in . No hard evidence for this rumor but it might just snow-ball and get even bigger!" Thanks to < Anonymous > for this rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 10, 2002 - Switcharoo. "I wonder how easy it would be to lure Kyle Macy away from Morehead. I honestly think he would do a great job." Thanks to < Anonymous > for this opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 10, 2002 - Disapointment. "I can't believe I just watched the entire Marshall-Miami game without turning it off in disgust! I kept it on in hopes that the players could somehow come back on talent alone but it just wasn't possible. How long must we tried and true Herd fans and our talented but unimproved team suffer from the lack of coaching ability clearly exhibited by Greg White and his staff? When will the powers that be in the athletic department make the right decision and pressure White for his resignation or fire him? It was crystal clear that he and his staff were clueless as to what to do during the game. Talent has won us enough ballgames during White's tenure to make it seem that he is doing a fair job, but we can only imagine what that talent could have done if it had the right leadership. As much as I like the players White has recruited, I have to say that they have not shown any improvement or development during their time at Marshall. J.R. and Tamar are no better than t! hey were as freshmen. Charlie Coles is ten times the coach White is, and he makes that clear every time we play his team. His players are not nearly as talented as ours, but he can coach which accounts for their beating us. Sorry Mr. White, you just don't have what it takes to be a head coach, so please do the honorable thing and resign if you have any real feeling for your alma mater and its fans who are very disappointed in you." Thanks to < SA > for this opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Comment: Jan 9, 2002 - MU's Offensive Coordinator goes to UF. "Have you heard that MU's offensive coordinator is going to Florida?" Click here to read the entire article. Thanks to < Brian Meadows > for the Heads Up. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 9, 2002 - More on C-USA. Louisville Athletic Director Tom Jurich talks about the proposed Conference Championship game and expansion. "The Conference USA contract with ABC/ESPN contract says that it will broadcast the C-USA championship game beginning in 2003. Problem is, Conference USA will need the NCAA mandated 12 teams to have a conference title game. With expansion currently postponed, Conference USA may need to look elsewhere for assistance in putting a conference title game on. C-USA expansion is still a possibility, with Jurich calling the issue a "warm" topic throughout the league, but time is running short." Click here to read the entire article. Opinion: Jan 8, 2002 - Wrap Up. "A sweet end to another exciting season. We finished 21st in the Coaches Poll, the only credible poll out there. I was on CollegeFootballNews.com and they have their All Bowl Team; and Byron Leftwich was the All Bowl QB winner. This season may have been disrupting and a little dissapointing, but we can change the perspective next year. We can overshadow the negative NCAA rulings on our program and dissapointing loss to Toledo, by simply running the table next year. We can beat Virginia Tech, we must contain the running game, and I'm not worried about Noel; he is not much of a threat without Davis playing WR. If we can run the table next year, we will have a very good chance in getting a BCS bid, based off from a better strength of schedule next year. Also, Leftwich for Heisman would be a booster for Marshall, and if we didn't get a BCS bid, would allow us to get a at large bid to a better bowl. The MAC is looking to land up to 2 more bowls next season, so hopefully we can land a descent bowl for our conference champion. I think the MTN West Conference should be eliminated from the Liberty Bowl and the MAC champion added. The MTN West Conference is about like the sun Belt Conference, very poor teams. Go HERD!!!! " Thanks to < LENAPHIL2002@YAHOO.COM > for this opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Between the Horns: Jan 7, 2002 - Another great editorial from the notorious Secret Agent #70. "OK, the season's over and the Herd pulled through yet again. It's time to begin preparing for next season. After the loss at Toledo a number of fans, press, and the like began busting on the Herd for a poor run defense. And they were probably right in most cases. The Herd has got to get some big defensive linemen to stop the run and let our speed boys take care of the secondary for a while. (insert Forest Gump voice here) That's all I have to say about that." Click here to read the rest.

Rumor: Jan 7, 2002 - Vacancy Available. "Will this lure our coach away? Click here." Thanks to < MC > for this rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 7, 2002 - Vacancy Available II. "Well now that spurriers gone, i am praying that the Gators dont pursue bobby. He used to be a coordinator there and i would absolutely hate it if he went there. As an avid gator hater, i would have no choice to pull for the gators, at least when theyre not playing the vols. If pruett is in consideration, i would not blame him at all, i just hope for the herds sake he stays, who knows." Thanks to < Brian > for this opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 7, 2002 - We Deserve an Explanation II. "According to today's Herald-Dispatch online (www.hdonline.com), Marshall University has severed ties to prominent businessman and Herd supporter, Marshall Reynolds. Marshall University officials confirmed Thursday that the NCAA has required the school to ban booster Marshall Reynolds from the athletic program for five years as a condition of penalties issued against the school in December.
Apparently, Mr. Reynolds was named in the NCAA ruling as the person responsilble for paying non-qualifying freshmen $25 per hour for janitorial work. It is rather disappointing, however, that Marshall administration was reluctant to release this information. Only after the H-D filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act did the university provide the details." Thanks to < IBleed Green > for this opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 4, 2002 - We Deserve an Explanation. "Has anybody from Marshall Administration or Athletic Department offered any kind of explanation for the recent NCAA ruling? Given the seriousness of the charges resulting in a four year probation, I personally feel that the fans deserve some kind of explanation for this emabarassment. MU Football has bled and struggled for too many years to allow something like this to smear its recent successes with dishonesty. There is no mention of the NCAA ruling on the herdzone.com web site or the MU official web site. Not only that, MU Athletic Director, Lance West has removed his e-mail address from the Staff Directory link at herdzone.com. The fans, who have been loyal to Marshall for the past 30 years need to send a message loud and clear to President Angel, AD West and Coach Pruitt. Somebody has to be accountable for this mess. I love the Thundering Herd. I want to see the Herd win more than anybody. But if we can't win with integrity, we should just hang up our cleats." Thanks to < IBleed Green > for this opinion. Rumor: Jan 3, 2002 - Conference Shake-up. The New Jersey Times posted a story about the possible break-up of the Big East Conference. "How badly the Big East needed to send this message. How loud the talk grows, how firmly the rumors persist that the Football Establishment is gearing up for its ultimate raid, for the decimation of the upstart Big East." Question: Jan 2, 2002 - Uniforms. "This is not so much of an opinion, but rather a question. What is in store for the Herd next fall in terms of uniforms? Is the kelly green gone? Anyone know the latest? Any new logos? Personally, I think they should keep the same uniforms." Thanks to < J > for this question. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Rumor: Jan 2, 2002 - Hoakies. "Rumor has it that the MU/VA Tech game will be moved to a Thursday night ESPN game on the 5th of Sept. Was supposed to be on the 7th. Keep an ear open for this because this would be huge." Thanks to < Eric Kutcher > for this rumor. Reply to this post. (View Replies)

Opinion: Jan 2, 2002 - Moving on Up? "I have said all along that C-USA isn't necessarily the answer to Marshall's needs. As I've said before this is a LONG process. Joining the ACC would necessitate a HUGE upgrade in all sports (especially basketball as well as women's sports in general). A tremendous upgrade in the athletic budget would be incumbent upon the Herd moving anywhere. Coach Pruett said (and I was there) that moving to C-USA would raise assistant football coaching salaries $10,000 PER COACH just to be at an average level in that conference. The costs of moving to the ACC would be staggering. Additionally, how would we compete with a 9,000 seat arena while the Dean Dome seats 23,000? EVERYBODY knows that the Herd could go into ANY conference in America a COMPETE--in football. Unfortunately there's more to it than that. A SERIOUS commitment in all areas plus significant dollars might get us to where we want to be in 2010. IT IS A LONG PROCESS!!!" Thanks to < Dennis Fravel > for this opinion. Reply to this post. Opinion: Jan 2, 2002 - Posted. "I know it's been 12 days since it was posted, but I have just been able to see the HerdZone.com story on the Herd's GMAC Bowl victory, for the first time. I am absolutely amazed at what a lame effort was made. A simple wire story with no proud boastings of the comeback win, no photos, no stats, no thrills or frills whatsoever. What a @#$!!&* smack in the face. I was so looking forward to printing out some cool HerdZone.com story to hang on my office wall, and all there was...was nothing much. That's not HerdZone.com standards. I'm really diappointed. Am I just being a baby? Whaaa, whaaa!" Thanks to < HerdMan1990 > for this opinion. Reply to this post. (View Replies)
